China Overtakes Japan as World's Second Largest Economy

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12427321

I understand we have talked about this topic in class about a week or two ago. However, I found this article really interesting because it explained the overall picture that although China is growing as a whole the average person is getting richer, but still most people in China are poor. Basically, in this article it explains that next they are going to pass up the US.
Do you think this will happen and will it be a good thing?

I think it will not happen just because the fact that China is beginning to buy up more of our resources. I seen an article about a week ago about Russia issuing hirer tariffs on lumber so China began to buy larger quantities from us.

  1. I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing if they passed the US economy. In the past, countries' economies have risen and fallen in comparison to other countries without harm. It might do the US good to retract from always being in the spotlight.

Regardless, I don't see the US allowing themselves to fall into the number 2 spot.

  2. I agree with the previous comment. I do not see the United States economy falling to the second spot. However, if China does surpass Japan that does not mean they will retain that spot. China's economy is growing at an extreme rate, and is most likely to level out as most fast growing economies do. The rivalry, however, amongst all three states can turn into a benefit rather then a competition.
