This entire topic has been troubling to me. I understand what he did and what he represents but celebration over his death does not sit well with me. Are we celebrating revenge or justice? Either way I don't understand how people can react the way they do. This may be a sigh of relief but it should be something we accept and move on from. He is just a symbol and nothing has really changed in my opinion.

  1. I understand what you mean, but on the other hand I see as to way people are celebrating. The 9/11 attacks really shook the American foundation. We have been engaged in two wars for over 10 years;in wars that frankly might not be winnable. In those 10 years we suffered countless of causalities. It is true that the death of Osama bin Laden does not mean the end of Al-Qeida. His death has simply given the American public hope, hope that the fight against terror is in fact winnable, and that American soldiers have not died in vain.

  2. Bin Laden was a leader in Al-Queda and a symbol for them. I agree with Alexander that 9/11 shook American foundation and he was a key character in the attacks. I fortunately didn't look anyone the those attacks, but I can only imagine the pain that others that did lose ones feel. It would be a sigh of relief for me if someone that helped plan the murder of someone I loved was brought to justice.

  3. In the same day that news of his death spread the term "sandnigger" went up ten million percent nationally and a mosque was vandalized a few hours after the announcement of his death saying "Osama today, Islam tomorrow." I too don't think much has changed. Islamophobia clearly didn't die along with him.

  4. I feel the same way as Tyler does for posting this article. How it seems as if lots of people are happy about the US invading all of these countries to find ONE man. The spent all that money for 10 years to find one guy seems a bit too much. Him being the leader of Al Qaeda is one thing and capturing him was another but the way the US did it wasn't the right way to do so.
