In response to the uprising Syria’s security forces have cracked down on anti-government protesters. Since March more than 3500 people have been killed in the violence. A three member UN commission released a report describing the human rights violations currently taking place in Syria. The report contains accusation of abuse, executions, and sexual violence against civilians apprehended during protest. Meanwhile, the Arab League imposed sanctions on Syria; which included an asset freeze and an embargo on investments.

It's terrible to see how Syrian protesters are treated with so much brutality when in the United States it is one of our freedoms to protest. It was shocking to read in this article that a Syrian protester was arrested, then beaten and tortured. The worst part is that children were killed. Hopefully the UN can somehow intervene to stop this from happening.

I agree with the comment above, that every where else in the world protesters are being massacred and sexually violated and not much is being done against it. The protesters only want whats best for the people of Syria. They wish over through the corrupt, unfair government. A government that is looking in its own best interest and not the peoples best interest. Although in the United States it is our right to protest, in a way the government is not so different. Yes the protesters here are not getting sexually violated but they are also fighting for the people and the government either does not see this or chooses not to understand them

I agree with the past statements. It is sad to see protestors violated. However, they still protest. This just shows the determination of the population to want to change. It is not easy. Although, many expect the intervention of other nations, until the situation grows and it affects the world community, then the world will intervene. On the other hand, we have the United Nations that has known about the situation months back and it has taken them so long for a response to the situation.

I agree with everyone that it is sad that these people who were protesting were abused and mistreated. But what amazes me is that even with all of this happening they are still willing to do what they are doing in other to get what they want. Even in the United States sometimes I feel that we would not really fight for something that badly if we knew the kind of danger involved but it all depends on the people I guess and how bad they want it.
