Over the weekend several Israeli government websites crashed. They believe that this was cyberattack. The purpetrator name is anonymous (really original), and the reasoning behind this attack was upoladed in a Youtube message. Anonymous said that if the siege on Gaza continuous, and more flotillas are intercepted then the attacks will continue. In this case, only a couple of servers crashed for a short period of time, but what happens when cyberwarfare becomes more prevalent, and governments are faced with bigger ulitimatums from hackers. Do you guys think that cyberwarfare is a major or minor issue? How should countires address this issue moving forward?

After reading this article, in my opinion cyberwarefare is beginning to look like a legitimate problem that could develop into a serious problem years from today. Although this anonymous group of programmers succeeded in shutting down the servers temporarily, it would seem unlikely that at this point in time a large scale take over or shutdown of a large network is possible. As countries move forward, trying to address and somewhat stop this problem will take a global effort in creating many online security blankets.

This was a very interesting article to read because I never thought of cyber-war as being a major threat. However, after reading this article it seems that cyber-war should not be taken so lightly, as evident by the group "Anonymous" there can be major negative affects. On another note, the article hinted at the idea that there could be massive destruction from "Anonymous" as well as other cyber-hackers. In my opinion that is a little dramatic. At this point in time cyberattack's do not seem deathly, but that does not mean the issue should be left unresolved.

I think cyber warfare has the ability to be a threat. This is due to the fact that we depend on our technology and electronics to maintain and manage our countries. With every attack, however, there should be more effort put forth to protect ourselves from cyber war. However, Professor Valeriano has spoken about Cyber War a few times during lecture, and he believes that cyber war is nothing to get worried about. So it is interesting that there are two very different viewpoints that we have been learning about.

Cyber warfare seems like a legitimate threat when you hear about a government, such as Israel in this case, or a large business or corporation becoming one of its victims. This could be especially dangerous if confidential government information or documents are threatened. But when you think about it, this seems like a pretty simple issue for the government to fix. When the government spends as much as the U.S. does on national defense, it shouldn't be hard to address this issue.

I definitely think that cyber-warfare is becoming a legitimate threat. This is the first I am hearing of one of these attacks happening in another country, however. I know that some of these attacks have already occurred in the U.S and they are a cause for worry. If these attacks are going to continue to become more frequent its clear that something needs to be done. I think that we would need to create a stronger cyber security structure that would not only be able to protect but catch the hackers that are causing the chaos in the cyber world.

In an era where we are pretty much controlled by technology, I believe that cyber-warfare is becoming a threat (or at least as the opportunity to become one). After this article it made the idea more prominent, since I haven't rally thought of this before hand. Of course in places like Gaza this is going to be a bigger issue since the internet is more closely regulated. I don't think there is any majorly huge threat like terrorism-but I think that it should still be watched.

While cyber-warfare could be a major threat, it is not now. People are acting like they did during the Red Scare. Look at the facts. Nuclear warfare is a threat. Cyber-warfare is not. Right not, it is at most an inconvenience and a way to scare people into thinking cyber-warfare is a legitimate threat.

This article reminded me of a quote I heard by Eric Schmidt :"The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had." People don't realize the power of the internet, and if someone was able to hack into government websites, it could be dangerous. It may not be a major threat, but should definitely be monitored.

Cyber-warfare is a new form of threats that has been introduced into the international arena with the continued rise of technology. I personally feel that cyber warfare is a very effective way to get a point across in a direct manner, especially if done to the government of a nation. It provides a way to derive future implications from the intentions of a group or individual. It is not a matter that should be brushed off and taken lightly. With the world requiring some form of technology one way or another to function, attacking that aspect can seriously cripple the infrastructure. Being able to attack a government with the means of technology sends a loud message that the individual is adamant about making a change and will not stop until changes are made. As we saw with Sony, albeit on a smaller scale, hackers were able to infiltrate their databases and have access to records and credit cards of Sony's customers as a way to prove a point that hackers are to be taken seriously. That created chaos in the tech world for weeks. Taking it to the international stage could have major implications.
