As NATO forces plan to leave in 2014, the German Army is fearful for a Civil War in Afghanistan. Fighting the Taliban over the years have caused some sort of peace but, the army is afraid that after they leave that war will ensue.

I think NATO troop reduction is a good thing in the long-run. The US didn't have a clear strategy entering the war - questions for how many troops are needed to and what exactly they should be doing in Afghanistan remain vague. Insurgency increased as a result of U.S. military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, maintaining our presence there has caused public fatigue and costs billions of dollars per month.

I agree that civil war will be inevitable as long as US relations with the middle east stay the way they are. What needs to happen is an increased effort on building relations rather than controlling relations, and this will take years.

There definetely needs to be a change in US plan. If we were to leave Afghanistan in 2014 without change, there will be a civil war. The US needs to focus on developing strong relationships. If history proves itself once again a civil war will erupt unless steps towards stabilizing the country are taken.

I also agree that a reduction of troops in the future is not only necessary but inevitable. Neither NATO nor the US or any other country for that matter can keep a continued presence in the middle east forever. I agree that building relations and a foundation that is stable in the middle east is more necessary than our continued presence there, because they need to be left in a state where they are functional by themselves, which will take a long time and much effort to stabilize.

I actually believe that without the NATO, things between the US and other countries would become worse. It seemed like NATO kept some balance between every country. I also think that the US needs to think about strengthening the relations with other countries.

I believe that there should be a reduction of NATO troops in Afghanistan because they can't be there forever. However, if all troops are removed from Afghanistan or any other middle eastern country then there will be an outbreak.
