Iran claims to have obtained US drone

Iran claimed to have shot down a RQ-170 Sentinel, a u.s. drone near the Afghan border. US officials say that there is no indication that one has been shot down, instead that the remote piloters lost control of the aircraft and the drone crashed into an unknown location. My concern is how do US officials not have better tabs on the equipment they use. If it is technology that we are afraid could be replicated, whether by Iran or by China or Russia, then I would assume they would be able to account for every drone plane that is made.

  2. I have the same concerns as you. Technology is a huge concern of our country, and we should be keeping better tabs of our equipment. This drone has the latest technology which is extremely important to a country on a path to develop more sophisticated armaments of destruction. If any part of this drone was left undamaged, this would potentially save Iran years of research and investments. Luckily, Iran is a long ways off from being able to manufacture equipment like ours. It would be worse if Russia or China got their hands on them, because they would actually be able to use them.

  3. I am sure that they are able to account for all technology. I think the problem here are the efforts they put forth on incidents like this. Mistakes will happen, technology will be stolen, and the important takeaway is that the military did not do this on purpose. The only thing they can be is more careful.

  4. I agree with with Sylvia, technology plays huge part in our country and we do have to be more careful of where our equipment is, but than again things like this will happen. At the end of it all, we just have to be more careful in the future.

  5. If China or Russia were to get their hands on the drone, it would cause a major problem. We have to be more careful with our equipment and prevent other nations from obtaining our technological equipment.

  6. The lesson here may be that the Unites States just needs to be more careful in the future. However, it only takes one mistake for other countries to obtain our tech equipment. Even if Iran couldn't replicate the drone, they could have sold it to more technologically advanced countries. That drone "likely had the U.S.'s most-cutting-edge sensor technology, including sophisticated cameras and listening devices" and that is not something we want in the hands of our rivals.
