In January, A Chinese news story about their air force used footage from the popular 80's movie Top Gun. This however is apparently nothing new, as Chinese news stories have been caught using other "outside" materials for their news stories. The most interesting part of this story is the fact that the news companies never pay any royalties when caught. In the spirit of globalization (the article which we read a couple weeks ago) what should the response from the international community be?

I was very suprised to read this article. I was not aware that news broadcasters ever even used news footage before. I don't understand how they can get away with doing this. It's mentioned that it happens mainy in stories about the military, or science and technology because it can be difficult to spot inconsistencies. I don't agree with any news broadcast using footage from any movie. I think if they don't have pictures or real footage, than they shouldn't show any visuals at all.

ReplyDeleteI believe the response from the international community should be outraged. Using unlicensed material on a broadcasting station should have its consequences. If other countries especially America had gotten away with something like this then it would be international news. It seems like we are the ones that other countries look down upon for doing un-moralistic things including this. I feel that there should be something done about it.

This whole ordeal on China's part is not only ridiculous but hilarious. I saw it and couldnt help but laugh because of how obvious the clips were. it really makes me question the true inteligence of people in charge of promoting and establishing a strong militaristic outlook for other states to view (speaking in chinas case obviously)

ReplyDeleteBut this was an extremely entertaining article. They stole scenes from popular films thinking no one would notice . . . really?! If they planned to do something that ridiculous they could have at least used a film that wasn't as known. They might as well have acted it out with action figures, then at least they wouldn't have been ripping someone off!

Wow this is crazy. I would never expect a news agency to do that. This is China though. They sensor everything and they block a lot including many things on the web.
