This supports the fact that international relations should take into account religion, as for some people, it is used as a catalyst and a reason to act out violence with on other groups of people. This is seen through this article as the results of an election, in which a christian has defeated a Muslim, has lead to mass murders throughout Nigeria.

I think that is absolutely unacceptable. I think that religion should be separated from state and government, but various religions are prevalent all over the world and its pretty much impossible for every state to have that.

It is interesting that the journalist notes at the end of the article that "some analysts say the violence has more to do with poverty and economic marginalisation in the north than religion." That conclusion makes more sense to me since Goodluck John, a Christian, was already the vice president to Umaru Yar'Adua, a northern Muslim. Because of this it seems like the violence extends to something more than just religion.

Sadly, religious violence in West Africa is not a new phenomenon. It has existed for decades but is rarely broadcast in the media. It is sad to see a part of the world that is plagued by such poverty and strife kill each other over religion. This has to stop
