Video Ivory Coast's Gbagbo calls video showing carnage

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/03/04/ivory.coast.violence/index.html

This video shows women in ivory coast singing and chanting, these women are holding signs that show that Gbagbo is not president. The police come and start shooting and even decapitated one of the women. Gbagdo obviously denies that he had anything to do with it. This all started because it is said that in november there was a election that left Gbagbo and Ouattara claiming presidential victory.

  1. While these events, I believe, have been more widely reported, in light of the protests in North Africa as well as the recent earthquake in Japan, much media coverage of the Ivory Coast has been limited. As many as 410 people have died, however, since the November elections. Resonating with Qadhafi's various conspiracy theories implicating the West and Al Qaeda in the movements, a representative of Gbagbo's government claims that allegations perpetrated by security forces are the mutual invention of the UN, Outtara's supporters, and its ex-colonial power, France. Despite the baseless character of these comments, it is relevant to consider the persisting influence of countries on their former colonial possessions. Notably, the French Foreign Ministry has called for an investigation of the attacks on Ivorian civilians, but it ill be intriguing to monitor the evolving relationship between Libya and Italy, particularly considering the large influx of immigration the latter is currently receiving from another former colony, Tunisia.
